The merger of supreme courts challenged before the Constitutional Court
The petition was submitted by the Communist parliamentary group
The leading Russian business daily Kommersant communicated today that the Communist parliamentary group in the State Duma has submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court with the demand to reverse the judicial reform envisaging the abolition of the Supreme Commercial Court and creation of a single Supreme Court. The Constitutional Court has registered the petition of communist parlamentarians about the invalidation of the amendment to the Constitution regarding the Supreme Court and the Procuracy in Russia. The Communist opposition insists that the judicial branch proves to be subordinated to the President and the legislative branch, and this violates the fundamentals of the constitutional order. "Today it turns to be possible to abolish in a routine procedure the Supreme Commercial Court and next - to initiate the liquidation of the Constitutional Court", warn the petitioners.
The petition has been signed by all the members of the parlamentarian group of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation which consists of 91 deputy and thus exceeds 20% of the composition of the State Duma, as required by law for having recourse to the Constitutional Court.
